Bulgaria: St. Paraskeva Church

St. Paraskeva Church, Sofia, Bulgaria

I visited this monumental church in Sofia in September 2014. It is a very impressive building. It is the largest church in Bulgaria in terms of number of persons it can hold. It has an interesting history: built in the 1930s and largely paid for by the royal family. During WWII the church baptized around 500 Jews to prevent them from ending in the Nazi gas chambers.

The church building was in a precarious condition. My goal was to connect the Fathers with experts in the area as well as helping to identify sources of funding. I am sorry to say that I was not succesful in this.
